The Wind Ensemble offers flexible instrumentation and player rotation in order to provide members of the ensemble with a variety of challenges, responsibilities, and playing experiences. Membership in the ensemble is open to students of all degree programs and is selected by audition.

At the onset of each semester, the Mercer Wind Ensemble divides into several small chamber ensembles such as brass choir, woodwind quintet, flute choir, brass quintets, mixed instrumentations and percussion ensemble. Each chamber ensemble is coached by faculty members in preparation for the "Mad About Chamber Music" concert series presented each semester. Following the "Mad About Chamber Music" concert, the full Mercer University Wind Ensemble performs 2-3 full wind band concerts. These concert programs offer students a chance to perform with outstanding soloists and guest conductors from around the world. Past concerts featured performances with guest composer, Lucidio Quintero from Venezuela, Brazilian guest conductor, Dario Sotelo, and Costa Rican conductor, Juan Battista. Recent soloists have included trumpeter James Thompson, saxophonist Miles Osland, and flutist Kelly Via.
